Condominium Insurance

Generally speaking, a condominium owner owns to the "four walls" of his or her unit. The exterior walls, wall space, mechanicals, common areas or elements, are the responsibility of the association, both for maintenance and liability.

Condominium insurance, therefore, is intended to provide coverage for damage to the interior of the condo unit, and its contents, in addition to protection against claims brought by someone injured while in the premises. In that regard, it is much like renter's insurance.

It is necessary that the condominium documents, such as the Master Agreement [if any], be reviewed and considered before insurance is purchased. If the insurance does not comply with the requirements of the Association documents, the owner may be in violation of the Association rules and coverage, in the event of a claim, may be denied.
